VARIETY: 100% Verdejo
Talking about Appellation Rueda means reiterating the quality of the best white wines in Spain at the moment.This is something that shouldn´t surprise, as these wines were already served at the Court of King Felipe III in Valladolid at the end of the 16th Century, who passed a decree to prevent the fraud of his preferred white wines. King Carlos III personally authorised the export of the famous Rueda wines to London in the middle of the 18th century. The origin of the Verdejo variety in the region goes back to the time when the Mozarabs due to their seasonal migration came to Castile where they settled. For three generations Diez de la Hoz family has dedicated to the cultivation of vines since the last Century. They own more than 100 hectares of vineyards throughout the municipal area of Rueda in the heart of D.O. Rueda. The vineyards are cultivated on the trellis system.
APPEARANCE: Clean and bright, this is a straw yellow wine with lemony hues.
BOUQUET: Medium intensity. Fresh aromas of citrus fruit juice and herb teas such as Melissa.
PALATE: Creamy, delicate body with an enveloping fragrance. Bitter finish very typical of Verdejo grape.
FOOD MATCHING: Fish, seafood, cheese, fruit, desserts. Due to the excellent backbone of Verdejo it is perfect for meat and specially for cold cured meat.
VINIFICATION: A criomaceration at low temperature is performed to extract the major quantity of primary flavours which are very potent in this variety. The fermentation is done at low temperature (9,5-10 ºC) in stainless steel vats respecting potential of the aromatic power of the variety. It is a young white wine without maturation.
